Step 4:
On the next page you will be given the option to either “Export Package” or “Archive Course.” Here’s what you need to know about what each option does:
  • Export Package - This option will create a copy of your course site and save it as a file on your computer. It copies only the course content and will NOT save any student activity information such as submission details, grades or discussion posts. This option is useful for backing up your course instructional material so that it can be used again in a future course; not to save student information.
  • Archive Course – This option will create a full archive of your course site and save it as a file on your computer. The archive will include a copy of the course site and will also include all student activity information including copies of original submissions and grades. This option is best for creating a complete backup of the course site that could be used for a grade review or simply to reference the work of past students at some time in the future.

*Note: UMass Dartmouth maintains course archives for all courses. However, we recommend that all instructors create at least an Exported Package of their course in order to be able to easily have access to their instructional materials in the future.

Step 5:
Choose your process:

Step 8:
When you receive the notification that your archive request or export package is complete, return to your course and open the “Export/Archive Course” page under “Packages and Utilities.” You will now see a link called either “Archive File course_name.zip” or “ExportFile course_name.zip” depending on if you chose to create an archive or an export. You can right-click and save this file to a secure location on your computer or anywhere you save important backups. We recommend that you use your U:Drive as a safe place to save your backups in addition to your own computer.
